Passado-Presente is the first exhibition of individual photography in Portugal by photojournalist Patrícia de Melo Moreira and will be on display at the Central Core of Taguspark, from January 19 to February 18. Admission is free.
The exhibition that portrays the course made by the photojournalist, from 2010 to the present, as correspondent of Agence France Presse in Portugal, is curated by Mário Cruz and is presented in partnership with CC11 and Narrativa.
In Patricia’s words, the fact that Portugal is not in the news of the world today allows her to focus on stories with more depth and that are less media. Many end up revealing a less visible gift, while showing traditions and the country’s historical legacy. The recent pandemic of Covid-19 highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of Portuguese society: a united and resilient people, but living in a country that still has much to evolve in the European panorama.
The curator of the past-present exhibition, Mário Cruz, says that “the 31 photographs in this exhibition exceed their usefulness and news function to the extent that they last in time, having, therefore, a timeless and free reading of news events. One of the biggest challenges that photography faces is to remain in memory and thus be part of history. Here, Patrícia de Melo Moreira makes her contribution through careful, attentive and distinctive photography.”
Free admission, the exhibition is part of the program of MAU – Museum of Urban Art, which aims to promote critical thinking and contribute to the well-being of those who visit and work in the City of Knowledge.
